Growing Balsam and vinca in new medium

Hot burning summer was ending soon soothing rain was knocking on the door. All through the summer I  was confined to indoors. My hands were itching to try something new.I missed the lush greenery of my little  garden.I love garderning and thought to make this season more interesting . Already having grown lot of plants from saplings and cuttings this time I wanted to start from scratch.Vinca and Balsam came as natural options.Let's see where they came from and other necessities.
Impatiens balsamina(my little balsam) also known as rose balsam,Touch-me-not,garden balsam etc is an annual flowering plant native to southern Asia. The plants grow 12-24 inches tall and come in wide range of colours like purple, red, white and pink. Balsam is a very low maintenance self perpetuating plant. It requires light for seed germination. Fertilize them with organic manure in every 15 days. This plant work well for garden borders as well as for containers.
Vinca(Catharanthus roseus) also know as Madagascar periwinkle is native to Europe and Southwest Asia. They are evergreen maintenance free fast growing plants. The plant require well drained. Fertilize them in every 15 days with organic manure.

I obtained Balsam and Vinca seeds from market.Watched many  gardening videos and rummaged through all available articles on growing plants in different medias. After many permutations and combinations I zeroed on using sand(80%)+ garden soil(10%)+cow dung(10%). Sowed the seeds on the top layer of the sand mixture and covered them lightly with sand. Water it well. Place it in partial

shade area. Irrigated it daily using spray bottle to avoid flooding. After 6-8 days new seedlings were observed. It may take longer duration in some cases depending upon weather conditions and seed quality. In my case I got satisfactory result.I observed Balsam seedlings grew faster than Vinca. The balsam saplings are now around 4-5 inches in heights at the moment and Vinca is around  1.5-2 inches. Try to avoid splashing the foliage.
I will transfer them  soon in new pots in few weeks to avoid crowding. You need lot of patience with plants. The best thing about both species is that they are annual flowering  plants with very low maintenance.Their tiny seedlings inspired me to go a new adventure and plan lots of new experiments. This was only one of my experiments there are many more in the pipeline.
